eSIM Supported Countries in 2026: The Full List by Region
eSIM Supported Countries in 2026: The Full List by Region
By Chester Takau · July 2026
eSIM support has expanded faster in the last two years than in the previous five. As of mid-2026, over 100 countries have at least one carrier offering eSIM support for consumer devices. But coverage quality varies significantly — a country being "supported" might mean one carrier with limited plan options, or it might mean full competition between a dozen providers with regional data bundles.
This guide covers where eSIM genuinely works well, where it is technically available but limited, and where you still need a physical SIM card. It also covers the Pacific Islands specifically — a region I travel through that gets overlooked in most eSIM guides written for European or North American audiences.
North America and Europe — Strongest Coverage
The United States, Canada, and most of Western Europe have mature eSIM markets. AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Rogers, and Bell all support eSIM with full plan options on consumer devices. In Europe, Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, and dozens of MVNOs offer eSIM. Switching carriers is straightforward and third-party travel eSIM providers like Airalo and Holafly have strong partner networks here.
UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania — all have strong consumer eSIM support from multiple carriers. Ireland, Greece, and the Balkans are catching up but remain slightly behind the western EU.
Asia-Pacific — Uneven but Improving
Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Singapore have strong eSIM ecosystems. Japan was an early adopter — NTT Docomo, SoftBank, and au/KDDI all support eSIM with competitive plans. South Korea's carriers moved quickly after the iPhone 14 eSIM-only US models created pressure. Australia's Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone are all eSIM-compatible.
Southeast Asia is more fragmented. Thailand (AIS, DTAC), Malaysia (Celcom, Maxis), Singapore (Singtel, Starhub, M1), and Philippines (Globe, Smart) all offer eSIM. Indonesia and Vietnam have started rollouts but physical SIM cards remain the dominant format and are often easier to set up locally.

The Pacific Islands — Where Most eSIM Guides Stop
This is the part that most eSIM guides ignore, and it matters if you travel through or live in the Pacific. The situation is complicated and changing.
Fiji — Vodafone Fiji and Inkk Mobile both support eSIM on newer devices. Third-party travel eSIM providers (Nomad, Airalo) include Fiji in Asia-Pacific bundles. Coverage is solid in Suva and resort areas, thinner in outer islands.
Vanuatu — Digicel and Vodafone Vanuatu are the two main carriers. eSIM support from local carriers is still limited as of 2026 — physical SIM cards remain the practical choice if you are staying more than a week. However, international travel eSIMs from Nomad and Airalo work on their roaming agreements in Vanuatu's main islands. For inter-island travel, expect coverage gaps regardless of SIM type.
Papua New Guinea — Digicel PNG supports eSIM on newer devices. Coverage is concentrated around Port Moresby and major towns. International travel eSIMs work in covered areas.
Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands — local carrier eSIM support is limited. Travel eSIM providers cover these through roaming agreements but with limited plan availability. A local SIM card on arrival is often more practical for longer stays.
Middle East and Africa
UAE, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Turkey, and South Africa have functioning eSIM markets. Dubai in particular has strong eSIM infrastructure through Du and Etisalat. Most of sub-Saharan Africa remains physical SIM dependent, though Kenya (Safaricom) and Nigeria (MTN) have started limited eSIM rollouts in 2025-2026.
Latin America
Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile all have carrier-level eSIM support from at least one major provider. Claro, Movistar, and América Móvil have led eSIM rollouts. Peru, Ecuador, and Central American countries are in earlier stages. International travel eSIMs from Airalo and Holafly cover Latin America with reasonable breadth.
